How is this different from backing up to a NAS or cloud drive?
NAS and cloud backups stay connected — ransomware is specifically designed to find and encrypt mounted network shares and connected drives, and it usually deletes or corrupts cloud-synced copies too. RansomShield's backup target is disconnected (and optionally powered off) 23.5 hours a day. There is simply nothing for ransomware to encrypt outside the backup window.
Does my data get uploaded to your servers?
No. Your backups stay entirely on your own USB drive, on-site. Our servers only store your license information, machine identifier, and short backup status reports (success/failure, file counts) so we can generate your license and reports. We never receive, and never want, your actual files.
